My daughter has been in a carrier for a while, but I'm getting a new one for Christmas and want it to be of a better quality than the one we have (which is kind of a cheapie)

I heard the Ergo carrier was really good, and my daughter is 20lbs righ now, but can you guys give me some suggestions? What's your favorite? Also, the one we have now really kills my back so if possible I need one that is good with distributing the weight of my daughter.

"I heard the Ergo carrier was really good"

That's about the size of it, yep. Mine has been in near-daily if not daily use for ten months and it's still like new. I can take my 15mo out for the day -- and I mean 9 to 5 -- in it without back bothers.

It can be a bit of a bother to learn to use at first, but all carriers have a learning curve.

It is without a doubt the best baby/toddler product I ever got. Works great, wears like iron.

I also have a Maya Wrap, a mei tai, a couple more ring slings, a Hotsling, and I had Baby Bjorn and a Bill Amberg Papoose. The slings still get a fair bit of use at 15mo, but the Ergo is the can't-live-without-it one.

The "sucking pads" are a nice add-on if your baby is the type to chomp the straps, and the zippered pouch you can velcro on to the waist strap is nice when all you need to carry is a wipe and a dipe and $20.

The ergo baby carrier is the best. You can use it until the child is to big to be carried. Best money spent ever.

Edit: Although the person was off topic she is wrong. Children here are turned at one just like the states. I know because I live in London.

We use the Baby Bjorn and have a cheaper version called the snugli. The Bjorn is much better. It allows you to distribute the weight pretty easily. I would also inquire about a bakpack.

I tried carriers and hated them. I became a baby wearer. It just works better. Slings are nice, but they hur tyour back with a baby that size. Theres wraps and other types. I would NEVER use anything else, and never have.

i dont know how peoiple can waste so much time buckling straps and hoisting and everything else... what a bother.

Get some sort of wrap or sling.

I love the Ergo! My son is 16lbs and I can carry him around for a couple hours before my back starts bugging me.

You mean a car seat for infants/toodlers? Because 21lbs is usually the maximum weight for a carrier. And she needs to stay rear facing until she's a year old. Personally it's still safer to keep my almost 13 months old rear facing because i have seen accident tests they do on rear and front facing car seats. And in Europe the minimum age for FRONT FACING is 4 years old because it is MUCH safer! Here take a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKIeExpDLDA

Look at the other related videos too. They say that really the only reason why here in the U.S we say 1 year is good is only for the convience of the parents so they can look back and attend their baby from the passenger/driver seats and see their face from there...

The bjorn is expensive, but worth the money. It has height adjusters for you so the weight is more evenly dispersed.

You don't need an infant carrier for her right now. You can just get a seat that sits frontward and backward. Here is the link:

It's called Costco Juvenile and I have been using it for my daughter since she could hold her head up and is now is using it at 15 months.

I personally have tried the slings and wraps and they kill my back. if you are in the grocery store just put her in a stroller or the cart.
