packing bag for hospital when in labour?

Question

when you delivered your baby and went to the hospital what things did you pack and were they useful or not? what is a must?
I've only two and a half weeks to go. =]

i packed:



FOR BABY:

clothes

nappies/diapers

burp cloths

blankets



FOR ME:

pj's

clothes to go home in

lots of ladies pads

warm socks

books/magazines

note book and pen (to record the birth afterwards)

phone charger

camera

toiletries



i used it all, and really liked having the note book. it helped me to wind down the day after his arrival.

I was in hospital for 5 days, so i had to ask people to bring me spare pads, clothes, toiletries, batteries for the camera, clothes for baby, diapers etc

For the baby:

the hospital will provide everything while you are there (swaddling blanket, diapers, hat, formula, etc)

Bring an outfit for them to go home in, and a receiving blanket to help support their head in the car seat



You:

Something to do while you wait for labor to get going (something that will help engage you with others and distract you, like card game)

Junk socks to wear during labor and throw out afterwards

Anything you think will help calm you down during contractions (soothing music, a favorite picture, etc)

A nursing bra if you are going to Breastfeed

basic underclothes and toiletries (I wore a hospital gown while there because it was easy to BF in, but some people bring their own pjs, etc)

Clothes to go home in

Snacks for whoever will be there with you (labor can take a while), plus some healthy snacks for you afterward



Many hospitals do allow cell phones in the room now (ask), plus of course a camera for first pictures :)

I am 35 weeks and I already have my bag packed... My baby is measuring big so I don't want to be stuck packing a bag if she is early! Also, my hospital recommended bring two bags. They have to inventory everything you bring to the labor room so they said one bag for it and another for after delivery.



Bag #1- Slippers, socks, camera, old socks, comfy bra, trail mix (my hubby's favorite snack), my ipod, contact case and solution, and my glasses will go in there in another few weeks...I still need them! I also have two pillows sitting next to this bag.



Bag #2- Gowns, comfy / big undies, more socks, going home outfit for me and baby, receiving blanket, three old t-shirts (we cats and a dog so we are going to wrap her up in old t-shirts while holding her....my hubby will bring them home to the animals so they can at least get her scent) toiletries, a towel, and some goldfish for me!

pack comfortable clothes to come home in, i was stubborn and packed my pre pregnancy jeans and tops, big mistake!

plenty of maternity pads, the hospital will have some but its best to take your own

cooling water spray was great for me

disposbale underwear (get a size bigger than you are they are really tight!)

slippers

brush

toiletries and towel (if you plan on having a shower while there i was in for 5 days after so i was glad i packed them)

i can't really remember anything else i had!
