bumper for crib...possibly silly question?

this may be a silly question but is there a point and time where you dont need to have a bumper for crib anymore? i thought they were a necessity, but recently purchased a new one and happened to read the tag. it said to use until baby could reach a sitting position or could stand on own. well my son is ten months and has been doing both for a while! so do i keep the bumper or not?

You are advised to remove it at that time b/c the baby can get tangled in it easier & can also use it to get out of the crib when they start to pull up, stand, etc.

They should be taken out when the child can or does stand on them. They try to use them to get over the edge.

They were important for my kiddies...who would otherwise have knocked their heads onto the spindles...When I took the bumper off the crib for my oldest, I had to just move her to a regular bed (15 months)...b/c she kept hitting her head & it was making her get up in the night.

Second one is still in...hasn't tried to stand on it yet...I don't think she even realizes it's a separate part of the crib.

My daughter needs a bumper because she wiggles a lot in her sleep and gets her legs stuck in between the bars. She also jams her head up against the side, and that wouldn't be pleasant without the bumper. :) She's 18 months now and still has it in there. However, I have a breathable bumper (it has little holes in it) that is very thin, so she can't use it to try to climb out. If you have a thick one, they can use it to stand on which isn't safe. I highly recommend the breathable one.

Absolutely not, I agree that it looks very tacky. Also, think of it this way, how many people who actually read the bumper sticker will actually laugh and think it's THAT funny? Ok, maybe a few people, but what else have you gained from it? Obviously, you yourself will think the sticker is funny to, but that does not change the fact, that it is completely tasteless to put a bumper sticker on a brand new car. Also, if the sticker fades, gets damaged, rubs off, etc... it will leave an even UGLIER sticky spot on the paint, which will most likely be damaged as you spend hours trying to scrub it off.

the bumper should not be put up at all - i personally believe that it should be banned completely but the companies want to make money on you.. first, there a risk of sids, so the bumber cannot go up and then when baby is a little older, the baby can stand on it and propel himself over the crib's rail..

I've heard that you don't need one at all. My son was being changed in his crib and ended up getting pee on the bumper, I washed it and haven't put it back yet. I like being able to see him from the bed when we're trying to sleep.

not necessary if they are old enough to catch themselves before they hit the sides of the crib. Mine never had any, my cousin was 4 months and suffocated because he got his face stuck underneath his bumper. Better not to have one at all

My son is 1 but sometimes I'm tempted to put his bumper back in his crib. He rolls alot at night and sometimes he gets his foot or arm stuck between the rails. :)

i took the bumper out of the crib when my son was trying to use it as a stepping stool to climb out..that was at about 10 months..

I stopped using mine when my son could pull to standing around 6 months. They can use it to climb out of the crib.

They say to get rid of it once your baby can stand on his own because he/she can use it for leverage to climb out of the crib. I removed it much earlier than that because I was worried it would be a suffocation hazard.

You don't really need it. I put ours in, so she wouldn't roll into the side of the crib and bonk herself, but turns out, she has very little interest in rolling and only goes onto her side and then back again. I think it ended up being a waste in her case.

I've never had a bumper on my son's crib. He's 8.5 months. They are not necessary at all.

I have never used one. I would think they would be pretty safe at 10 months though once baby has learned to get out of trouble should they roll under it or something. I would say they would just serve the purpose of looking cute!

bumpers are not recommended due to potentail SIDS issues, they are mentioned as limiting airlflow and possible suffocation methods.

I didn't bother to put one in my daughters bed. They're really not necessary.

your not really supposed to use one because baby can get trapped and suffocate

just return it
