I'm testing out cow's milk on my almost 12 mo baby while trying to switch from breast milk but it seems to be tearing up her tummy! I'm only giving her lowfat right now b.c the whole was too much as well. will she eventually get used to it? I feel bad : (

Maybe but I would switch to soy. I had my baby on soy milk until she was a year and a half. She had to have soy formula too. I am pretty sure she'll get all the nutrition she needs from the soy milk without tearing her tummy up.

I was always told that you need to start them off gradually on cows milk. Start with 3/4 breast milk and 1/4 milk do that for a couple of days, then go to 1/2 and 1/2 for a couple days, then to 3/4 milk, 1/4 breast milk for a couple of days and finally on straight milk. If that does not help then I would do soy milk instead.

Cow's milk is designed for: yes, you guessed it - baby cows.

It has gobs of a sticky protein called casein. Much more than is in human milk. And it has a lot more milk sugar.

It's not unusual at all for a baby to not be able to properly digest cow's milk.

If you just can't breast feed anymore, try goat's milk. Yes, goat. This stuff is tolerated by more animals than any other. Goat's milk is what zoo keepers try first when any new momma animal will not nurse.

Soy is a good alternative, but very thick and sweet (so she may like!) I'm lactose intolerant and I use rice milk, it has a lot of vitamins that cows milk does but doesn't mess stomach up. Ask your doctor about it.

I've read that goat milk is better for babies (and people in general) than cow's milk and that back in the day if a mother lost her milk or died, then the baby was fed goat milk. Larger grocery stores carry it, you should try that.

Sounds like your babies like my daughter was, she was lactose intolerant. Just get some acidopholis milk and some powdered probiotics for infants, you just mix it in with the milk..

Until then, no more milk for baby! Just so you know I believe it is over 70% of Americans maybe higher, are lactose intolerant.

She may have a bit of lactose intolerency I would suggest soy as an alternative. That is what my mother gave me when I was a baby she said it was a lot better for my stomach.

She might be allergic to it! My baby boy had the same problem. Try giving him soy milk? It's really good for them :)

She could be lactose intolerant. Give her soy milk.

Also, there is a product of rice milk that is well tolerated.

she will probably get used to it. however, if she doesnt, then it could mean shes lactose intoelerant.
