So my baby usually is 5 months old has four 8 oz bottles a day with solids for about the past month. Today she took her morning bottle about half and her lunch bottle totally. She then snubbed her afternoon bottle only taking about an ounce. This evening, she would not drink her evening bottle. She has a cold also (but her nose is clear enough to drink and breath) so I thought, well I do not want her to get dehydrated...I'll see if she'll take some pedialyte which she has never had before. Sure enough she would not take the milk, but took the pedialyte so I tried mixing about an ounce of pedialyte in her milk and she sucked it down! Could she be disliking the taste of her milk? At first I thought her throat was sore and maybe that was the problem, but if it was she would take the mixture then either, right?

My doc said it was perfectly fine to mix both...exspecially when baby is sick and dehydration is a concern. Its just not a good idea to do it long term the concern is the other pedialyte doesnt have the complete nutrition that the formula does, and if baby fills up on pedialyte then he/she is missing out on needed nutrition. But if the baby is sick and this is how you can get her yto eat then do it! Its better then nothing right? Hope she feels better :(

When you are sick, you often just don't have an appetite. You will never know if her throat is sore, or she has sinus pain, or is also teething with a headache.

Right now, she needs fluids and only fluids. Try to calmly offer her normal feedings plus an extra feeding every few hours (in a different location if possible). Read a story during the feeding to distract her.

If she doesn't take her regular feedings, I would offer her some wet things to eat (since she has been on solids for a month), such as a piece of watermellon, or similar fruit.

If she doesn't gnaw on that, offer a wet washcloth. Or wet her hands, and hope they get into her mouth.

Give her a nice long bath tonight, and encourag her to chew and drink from some plastic cups/spoons/toys/washcloths.

Hope your little one feels well again soon.

It completely relies upon on how previous the youngster is. in the experience that your toddler is below 4 months previous, then it could have no longer something yet breast milk and formulation. The energy are to substantial to weight benefit to furnish him something. in the experience that your toddler is over 4 months, mabey attempt giving him a table spoon of rice cereal an afternoon to initiate him on yet another source of energy. in reality that toddlers below 6 months previous have not got style buds mature adequate to even tell the version between pedialyte and formulation. it ought to actual be a texture situation, no longer the flavour. extremely through fact that breastmilk is greater fluid then formulation. additionally, in the experience that your toddler is to youthful to have fruit, then he's a information on the thank you to youthful to have pedialyte.

sry to hear your baby has a cold... mixing pedialyte with formula may or may not be the best idea. the pedialyte probably goes down a lot better than the formula cus milk makes mucus thicker (gross right?!). i would just let her drink one or the other.

I'm not sure why you would be giving her Pedialyte - if its only been a short time (day or so) and she's eating and can drink water as opposed to milk, I doubt that it's necessary. Pedialyte is usually used for babies when they are vomiting, and they can't hold food down whatsoever as well as fluids. Have you checked with your doctor on this? Might be best to do so before you do anything else.
