I've been looking into a few baby swings, and so far I like the take along fisher price aquarium one, and the full size fisher price rainforest one.

My main concerns with the swing are that:

-it can lean back so it is comfortable for infants
-its not a TOTAL pain to move between rooms, although does not have to move anywhere out of the house
-id prefer it to be able to plug into the wall, esp. if its a full size swing
-a boy's or unisex pattern. i personally like animals, greens, and blues

does not concern me:

-ease of putting together... ive got time and a father and boyfriend to figure it out lol
-sound options because i will have portable speakers with a preloaded ipod of music and sounds and such
-its nice to move 2 ways, but front to back is just fine with me

I have the full size rainforest swing. My daughter loved it. It reclines very far back so it's perfect from birth. I never actually used the more upright recline position (it only has two recline settings). 99% of the time I used it in the front to back swing mode because that was what my daughter preferred. It is very easy to move around the house - the frame is like the capital letter A...and when you collapse it it becomes like a capital I (if that makes sense). One thing I didn't like about it was that sometimes if my baby would kick her legs it would throw the swing off balance and it would stop swinging for a minute before it got going again. That was annoying. Also, the tray on the front is unnecessary...I never used it and I plan on trying to remove it for my next baby. Another thing to keep in mind is that it takes up a good amount of floor space, so you'll need to have an area of about 4'x4' for it. As I'm sure you've already read in the item's description, it can be plugged in or run on batteries. I don't think Fisher Price is making much of the Rainforest line anymore, but you could still get one used. They've replaced it with a similar line with the name Planet in the title. But that's super cute too!

I had my daughter in one of the travel swings before and didn't care for it. It is so close to the ground for one thing, and the swinging motion isn't as horizontal as I would have liked. That's mostly because the arms from which the seat is suspended are only like 12" long. I felt that if I was the one in it, I would have been sea sick feeling in no time. I don't think (but I'm not sure) that travel swings come with a plug-in option...I think they're battery operated.

I think that I like the cradle swings best. They seem to be more appropriate for longer periods of time. The ones that are not adjustable for newborns seem pointless to me. The one thing I noticed is that both the aquarium one and the rainforest one are pretty narrow. My cousin has the aquarium one and her three month old barely fits in it. I mean, her baby is a little on the bigger side, but only the 90th percentile for height and 85th for weight...so what happens next month? It seems silly to me to get one that is so small. I noticed when I was over her house the other day. I really love the Fisher Price Little Lamb swing. I had the older version (looked more like a bear or something) and loved it with my older two children. We need a new one this time, since my hubby fell into the old one (haha) and are getting the lamb one. It's seat sits up for older babies, but cradles younger ones. It totally sucks, but it doesn't have a plug. The batteries do last a while though. I have to admit it was not as big of a battery-eater as I thought it would be. They are def unisex, as I used the same for my daughter and son and am getting the lamb one for a little boy. I don't find them to be a pain to move, but if you are short, they might be harder, since it is bulky.

I have the aquarium swing and I love it. My daughter has used it since she was a week old. You just have to be careful when they are that small and make sure that their head is supported on the sides. The older she gets, the more she loves the swing.

I personally like the sweet peace swing. I did not have it for my son but my neighbor had it for her daughter though it is a little difficult to move from room to room my son loved it when we tried it out before her daughter was born and she loved it as well...it plays the sounds of the womb to comfort a newborn, and you can plug in your ipod as well.

we had the full size rainforest; it folds easily, swings both ways and uses batteries or plugs in...she loved it..
