Just out of curiousity... How often does your newborn eat (drink) and about how much?

Just had me and my hubbys little girl Sunday morning. And I already notice her appetite is really increasing. Just out of curiousity how often does your little one eat? And how much? Do you wake them up to feed them every few hours? Or do you allow them to decide when they are ready to eat?

Sorry about all the questions, just wondering I guess.

my son just 3 weeks old.. he is regular 2 hour with 2 oz but after 1 week plus he can finish 3 oz also 2 hour on the dot everyday...now he's 3 weeks old, sometimes he can finish 4 oz.. i let him decide when he ready to eat but he made his own routine..

when my bub was a newborn he nursed every 2 hours on the dot from the time he finished nursing. this was when he was older than a week, during the first week i had to wake him every 3 hours max if he didn't wake himself. at night i wouldn't let him go more than 4 hours w/o a feeding until he was a month, and then 5 and then at 3 months i just let him nurse whenever he wanted, no schedule. he still doesn't have a schedule and at five months only takes 2-3 ounces at a time from the breast and refuses any more. congrats on your baby!

Hiya, firstly congrats on your little girl!



Ella is 21 weeks old now, but when she was born she was drinking about 3oz every 4 hours, I never woke her to feed her, always let her decide when she wanted to, she got into a good routine and started sleeping through the night at 10 weeks old!



if it seems like she wants more, i would give her an extra oz ...x

I wake my little girl up to feed her. She was a 5lb baby and was jaundiced so she didn't feed well, so we had to wake her at first. Now she's a bit bigger she does demand to be fed when she's hungry, but she demands at the time i'd been feeding her if that makes sense! I have a little difficulty waking her at 10.30pm for a feed, but it pays off - when she wakes and feeds at that time, she easily will sleep till 5am.



As for how much she eats - I've no idea. I'm breastfeeding and i've found it hard not knowing how much she is actually eating. If I express milk, it takes about 10mins to express about 4oz. And she feeds for between 10 and 15 mins at a time, so I guess that's how much she is eating?

Congrats on your little one!! I thought these kids would never come out! Our daughter was born Friday!



She eats (and poops) every three hours on schedule. At each feeding she drinks 3oz-3.5oz. Last night she went almost 4 hours between feedings. She has really bad diaper burn from pooting so much so after we feed her we soak her in warm water then sometimes she finishes her bottle (about 1oz left) so at that point she just konks out!
