After having my son my periods have gotten considerably worse. I was also using tampons until I had to go to the ER and was diagnosed with the early stages of Toxic Shock Syndrome (and yes I change my tampons every 4-6 hours). My questions are did your periods get worse or better and do you use tampons or pads and why?

My periods have gotten much worse. I used to only last about 3-4 days and now I go about a week or more. They have gotten so much heavier also. I also don't use tampons. My sister died from TSS. She didn't realize what she had and developed heart failure because of it. So in my opinion it isn't worth the risk. I know that TSS is very rare, but I'm not taking any chances, especially seeing my sister suffer from it.

For the first 8 months after having my son I couldn't use tampons for some reason they were just not as comfortable as before. For the last few months I've been able to use them again. I got on birth control for the first time at my 6 week check-up so my periods are on a regular schedule & I only bleed for about 3 days now compared to before I pregnant & wasn't on birth control I bleed for 7+ days. I use tampons while I'm @ work when I'm @ home I use pads just because I hate walking around with a big pad on all day!

With regard to the pain from cramping, it actually got better. I went from being in intense pain for 2 days to not even feeling a single cramp after my daughter was born.

As far as my actual period is concerned, it's still the same, flow-wise and all. I had always used a tampon and only stopped during my postnatal bleeding, when I used a pad. When my usual periods started back up again 3 months postpartum, I began using tampons again. I hate the feeling of standing and feeling everything gush out when I'm wearing a pad, that's why I use tampons.

Mine has pretty much returned to normal. It is a bit heaver sometime... Tampons all the way expect some nights towards the end when a pad is enough.

My son is going on 9 months old, got my period back about 7/8 weeks after birth.

They got worse. Before they would only last 2 days and be fairly light, now they last almost a week and are heavier. Also they got WAY messed up, I'd skip a month, get more than one in a month. Birth control really really straightened it out.

I use tampons because I *hate* the feeling of sitting in blood. I ran out once and had to use pads that I had...I was changing them every hour and taking a quick shower between changing them. I felt so nasty. Some people love them though, so those who can use them all the power to you. I'll gladly take my risks with TSS lol

Since having baby#2 in 2008 and I've noticed that my periods are getting better only because it's shorter and lighter these days. I am most comfortable with pads and have no reason in using tampons. I usually just use the CareFree thin pads on most days but if I need more protection I go with Always and it works just fine for me.

I have to honestly say that mine got worse, a lot worse although not straight away but I was feeding the babes myself so maybe that helped. But over the last 7 years since I stopped feeding they have steadily become worse, longer, heavier and more painful. As for tampons I have never used them, to be honest the thought of keeping bodily waste inside my body for longer than is natural didn't seem right. We are all different about how we do things and how are bodies are but this was, as a survey a very interesting question!

Mine got much much better. First i had terrible cramping and it will last for 2 days almost but now i only had cramps for some hours and before baby i get very irritable but not now, may be i do not get the time to be irritated :) I always use pads at home but prefer tampons when go outside.

After i had my son, my periods were super heavy, it was crazy bc i went through a super plus in about an hour, i never wanted to go anywhere because of the fact that i had to change it so often, but thankfully it was only like that for 6 months and than my period went back to normal

After my first I had 3 periods a month, on the 5th, 15th and 25th (weird right?) I only had 2 days before my next period arrived, this happened till I got pregnant with my second and my son was 18 months, I went to the doctors multiple times and they told me it was "normal" and I used pads.

I'm so happy now because my periods only come once a month =].

since my youngest they have gotten shorter but so much heavier! i use both tampons and pads, tampons during the day and pads at night! using pads as well as tampons lessens the risk of TSS it doesnt prevent it but it can help the risk!

Mine got better. Like, MUCH better. I don't really get any physiological symptoms anymore (no tender boobs, headaches, etc.) and only occasioinally will I get some cramps but even those are a ghost of what they used to be.

If I didn't use birth control that tells me when to expect my period (NuvaRing), I swear my period would sneak up on me.

I didn't expect giving birth to make my periods easier, but I'll take it!
