My mothers recipe calls for vinegar and brown sugar, amongst other things. And of course I have no vinegar or brown sugar. I have every other ingredient though. Do you have a recipe for sweet and sour meat balls over rice that doesn't call for these 2 items? I can't make it to the store this evening, but I'm really craving this for supper! Any ideas?
(I do have maple syrup...but I don't know how well that would taste...)

That's the standard recipe I know -- brown sugar and vinegar, and sometimes some ketchup. I suppose you could use regular white sugar and/or molasses if you have some for the sweet ... and lemon juice for the sour. But the taste will be completely different. Maple syrup sounds nasty to me ... but I don't like maple syrup.

Do you have to make this recipe? Why not do something else with the ground meat? (Swedish Meatballs? Spagetti? Hamburgers?Meatloaf?Spanish rice?

I have no idea how to make Sweet and Sour Meatballs, and I've never had them - but, I absolutely LOVE Swedish Meatballs! I have never made them from scratch yet, but I plan on it at some point. So far, I have bought the Swedish Sauce from GFS (my hub and son just love it, and everyone asks me for the recipe - so embarrassing though, telling them I bought the sauce, LoL)! That's one reason I plan on making it from scratch someday.

Here is a recipe for Swedish Meatballs: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Swedish-Meatballs-I/Detail.aspx - I would nix the parsley though.

Happy eating!

2 12 oz jars Heinz chili sauce

1 32 oz jar grape jelly

1 bag meatballs (about 80 in a bag)

Put chili sauce and jelly in a large pot, heat until jelly is melted and sauce is smooth, stirring often. Add in meatballs and simmer till warm .

YUM
