My friends baby cries non stop when she isn't holding him. Its not gas, or teething, or any of that, i have 2 children of my own and i know what the signs of that are. The only time he cries is when she is not holding him. Right now she is living with us and the crying is starting to get real old. He even cries when she leaves his sight. How do i get this kid to stop crying or how do i ween him from this attention issue with his mother. Actually its pretty much if she is not within eye sight of him that he flips out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh and he is 10 months old.

The only thing to be done is for them to spend some time apart. She needs to leave for short periods of time, tell his she will be back and just let him cry. Tell her NOT to sneak out. That can give a baby trust issues, making the problem worse. Eventually (it could take up to a month of this in my experience, but generally 1 to 2 weeks) he will realize that she will always come back and will begin to settle down shortly after she leaves. He might always cry for the first minute or so but will get over it more and more quickly. She also needs to make sure she does not hold him too much. At his age, he should have some independence. So she should kneel on the floor next to him while they play instead of him on her lap, for example, and he will begin to venture farther away with time.

Basically, you're stuck with a crying kid for a while but with work it will improve. Try to be patient and realize that it is not his fault. His mom is his world, and its really scary for him when she is not there.

Sounds like a raging case of separation anxiety. She can tell him she is leaving for a short time and then leave the room. You should be in the room and do your best to distract him and be positive about how mommy will be right back. She should then return within a few minutes. Gradually he will learn that mommy always comes back and you can lengthen the time in between.

my godson is the same age so I can relate.U have to just make him more socialized and use to not being up under her wings so tell ur friend to jus tlet his cry. Because if not when she needs a baby sitter it"ll be a headache for the paerson watchin her child.
