we've already fed him rice cereal for 1 week, follwed by oatmeal for a week, and then wheat, all approved by the pediatrician. he's about to be 5 months and i want to hurry up and get to the solids that have more nutritional value.
is it ok to feed him jar foods now or should i finish feeding him every kind of cereal, like the oatmeal and banana ect? [pediatrician said to feed him all the cereal before trying jar food and i'm not sure if she meant just the one ingredient ones or not.]

We did Rice for a long time and then started all sorts of food. We did the foods by themselves and with the rice. I'd go ahead and start jar foods. :) Have fun!

definitely OK :)

My girls ate jar foods from 4 months, every couple of days until they really got the hang of it.

By 6 months they were eating it daily, but not a lot of it, just a few spoonfuls here and there.

Now they're almost 9 months and get 2 solids meals per day (which is actually a small amount for babies their age, but our doctor said to always make sure they get their formula first before feeding them jar food at their feedings).

I agree with the ladies above. If your little one is doing well with the cereals then onward to the Stage 1's! :) It's a blast. It's so up to you whether to started veggies first or fruit first. I started one of my children on veggies first and the other on fruit's first and I can honestly say that I don't think it made a difference on them accepting or rejecting foods later. I think that's just up to the pallate of the child. The chile that I fed fruits to first ate anything I put in front of her.. never rejected anything. My son on the other hand I started on veggies first. And I can't get him to even LOOK at a vegetable with it igniting a major traumatic event! HA! My pediatrician told us that we could start cereals at 4 months but that if we wanted to wait, all he needed was breastmilk (or formula). But that if I felt like he was still hungry at the end of the day it was just fine to introduce the cereals. Then at 5 months he told us it was ok to introduce fruits and veggies and told us we might even try mixing them with the cereals once he'd tried them alone. (to rule out allergies and all that great stuff)

Just go with your gut momma :) If the little one is saying HEY I need more substance than liquid, then no ADA or FDA can tell you what's best. YOU know what's best. Much fun to you for the upcoming baby food months. It's a blast! :)

Well it all depends on what your peditrician recommends really but mine had me feeding my daughter cereal at 4 months along with a little stage 1 baby foods. Then at 5 months she is starting to eat more stage 1 baby food. Just remember, he may not be able to eat the whole jar the first few feeding as my daughter would only eat about 1/3 of the jar. (but the jars are good for 2-3 days after opening if refridgerated) So he will eventually eat the whole jar but it may take a little bit for him to do so. If you want to start introducing him to new tastes to get him ready for baby food, you can add a little to his cereal just to taste for that if youd like. Im pretty much repeating everything my ped. had me doing with my little one. Oh and he also recommended to start out with veggies bc if they get hooked on the sweet fruits then they may not want veggies afterwards. But I think what your ped. meant was "after the first box of cereal, then start on baby foods." Because most of the "flavored" cereals have little pieces in them and usually arent recommended til 6+months usually. If this helps, I started my daughter on Stage 1 Sweet Peas & now she will eat anything i give to her now. :) **I hope this helps answer your question a little and good luck**

Edit: And you might want to try one kind of food a week or so, just to watch out for different allergies.

Yes you can start Jar food. My nephew started at about 5 months too so it should be ok. But i'd be careful although being a baby and eating mostly everything in jars you have to be careful because well he's a baby and you don't really know what his allergies are yet.

I started my daughter on mushed foods at the age of 6 months like mashed peas, carrots and all those sorts of things. If the food isn't solid and doesn't require chewing then it's fine. I think they recommend the age of 6 months because this is when more teeth start to develop and also their stomachs start to adjust a little better to certain foods. Hope this helps.

i don't see any reason u can't start now; i would have started (well, i did) right after the rice cereal and work in the oatmeal and such as you go; sometimes you can make a meal of cereal if you want, adding fruit, milk, whatever you want ; and ppl that say all veggies before fruits...babies are born with a sweet tooth bc bmilk is sweet; i fed mine fruits before veggies and she's never refused anything but corn casserole, LOL; of course she also eats table foods now bc she's old than your baby, but i see no reason why not...

You don't need to rush the solids, they have no nutritional value really... they are just for fun... he is not suppose to be full up on solids.. I'd wait until he's at least 6 months to start jar foods.

P.S Cute baby!

NO THE FDA SAID WAIT TILL 6 MONTHS FOR DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS, DOCY SAYS 4 MONTHS IS OKAY BUT I WOULDNT I WILL WAIT THE 6. THANK U BUNCH

BUT IF YOU WANT TO FEED BABY THEN YES

DO RICE CERAL FIRST [PLAIN . OTAMEAL]

THEN TRY SWEET POTATOES, WAIT 3 DAYS [INCASE OF ALLERGY ISSUES, YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU GAVE TO BABY SO U WILL KNOW] THEN INTRODUCE PEAS, WAIT 3 DAYS INTRODUCE ALL VEGGIES THEN FRUIT, THEY SAY ONCE BABY TRIES FRUIT, THEY WANT NOTHING TO DO WITH VEGGIE.

FORMULA/BREAST MILK IS STILL MAIN FOOD

ONLY GIVE STAGE 1 FOOD TO BABY 2 TIMES A DAY USUALLY HALF-FULL JAR

BUT ITS BETTER TO WAIT TILL 6 MONTHS HUN.
