Question:
DO you sort your baby's clothes into light / dark before laundry ?

So here's the deal. I had an argument with my MIL. I have never sorted my girls clothes into light/dark, I just do a load of ''baby'' and stick it all in at once. I think it would be a waste of water to do two tiny loads.

My MIL gave us some very nice (and pricey!) summer outfits- light pink and pale yellow. Somehow, the laundry thing came out. Now she's somewhat mad and worried I'm going to ruin them. And I'm feeling guilty and wondering if I'm just being lazy because I DO NOT like laundry ! (It had honestly never crossed my mind to sort them before!)

What do all you other Mom's do ? Sort? Or just shove it all in ?

No way! It already takes a week and a half to make one load for my little one, I can't imagine sorting it on top of that. If you have anything really dark wash it with the regular laundry before throwing it in with the baby's lighter stuff and you should be fine. Just tell your MIL you wash the outfits she got your baby separately - she'll never know

I've sorted things on occasion. Only because once a pair of her dark denim jeans got put in with her whites, pinks and lavenders...and the whole load came out with a blue tinge.

However, if there's isn't enough to make up a whole load of dark "baby laundry," I just put whatever's left over in with our things. I've always done this anyway, and it's never been an issue.

Good luck!

Nope I don't sort out The clothes are way to tiny to sort out so I just trow them all in together Unless it is a bright red that I know it will stain I will wash separately By the way if you don't ruin your daughters outfits I'm sure your daughter will eventually get to it so your MIL should stop being so worries about it

the only times i sort out light colors from dark colors was the first time i wash something when i first buy it. after that it all gets washed together, the loads are too tiny to get washed separate. and none of the dark colors stain the light colored clothes because i wash with cool water, warm water is what causes your dark colors to stain.

but if you're still worried have 2 separate baby laundry baskets, one for light colors, and one for darks...thats what i do with our clothes so that i dont have to sit there and sort them, i can just throw in the load.

i do actually sort but if you havent had any problems so far then continue what you are doing. As far as the new clothes that your mil gave you make sure there isnt any black or dark clothes that go in with that load especially if they are new too. Also i think if you use cold water it is less likely to leak colors to ruin the clothes its when you use hot/warm.

No, I do one "baby" load. I do not even sort darks and lights with my clothes or my husbands. I only do jeans separately. I suppose if I had my own washer and dryer, I would want to take the time to do this, but since we have to share with an entire apartment complex, and it costs $5 a load...I want to make the most of it!

I will only seperate if its brand new never washed before, one time i didnt and it totally messed up the whole load! After that first wash though i normally just shove everything in together! I dont have time to pick and sort through all the baby clothes, and my 5 yr olds!

I do sort them but only because I don't do just a "baby load" I just sort all of our cloths and wash them all together.. I don't buy different soap either... I think that it is just a way to get people to spend more money and besides I use an all natural soap that is scent an dye free so there isn't anything that will harm my kids in it...

I never sort baby laundry anymore. I USED to sort burpy rags and things but my daughter's reflux was so bad that anything she spit on went in to its own load or everything smelled like spit up after they were dried lol.

On the occasion when we get new outfits I may decide to put them in the dark load with our laundry if I fear it will bleed on everything, like the navy blue sailor dress. I wasn't going to risk that one. Or the black and red dress. After they go through their first wash with our clothes, they stay with the baby clothes.

DD's laundry loads are the perfect size now to fill the wash so why mess with it :)

Nope. I have all her clothes in one load. They are way to tiny to sort into lights and darks lol.

I wouldn't worry to much about ruining the clothes. In almost 7 months, none of the colours have ever bled into my daughters clothes. They all look like new for me, besides the spit up stains lol

Nope, I just wash them on cold/cold, on delicate. They always come out fine. I also dry them on low. The only thing you should be careful about is dark clothes, that are new, and haven't been washed. And if by chance, they do run, onto other clothes, if you catch any stain before you dry them, it will come out in a wash or two. So I always make sure to check the clothes before I dry them.

Just shove it all in!

The other day I washed one of her outfits in OUR detergant to see if she would have a reaction or if we could just go ahead and use normal detergant for all the clothes.. She was absolutely fine with it and had no reactions! So lately I've been throwing in our clothes and hers together but using the baby detergant just to use it up.. then I'm going to start just using ours.. But mixing the clothes makes it SO much practical!! :)

i never sort them

i just do one load of baby clothes each week... and his clothes are fine!

my MIL is a clean freak also and it annoys me!! she even rubs her fingers on my cabinets etc for dust!!! i call her the 'everbody loves raymond mum' haha

even though i only have one baby i dont have time, or the energy, to sort the clothes into dark/light
I can eat in public too!

shove it all in. not enough clothes to make two loads. most of the time I do that with my laundry too. unless there is something really dark that will bleed, nothing's going to be a problem. tell her you already washed them and that they did just fine in there with all the other laundry.

I sort my 6 month old son's laundry with the rest of our laundry. So yes, I do lights and darks separate. But I don't do his clothes separate from ours.

I just use Tide Free on all of our clothes and do our clothes and my son's clothes together. I do sort all the clothes into light and dark loads.

I shove all his clothes in there at once. If your MIL is so worried about it, she shouldn't have bought such pricey things. Or she can do that laundry herself! lol Seriously, you're not being lazy, you're being practical.

I'm one step lazier than you. I don't even sort baby and adult clothes. Everything gets washed together, darks, lights, whites, in cold water. The only thing I wash separately is diapers.

The only time I don't wash something together is if it is red. It may bleed. You are like every other mom out there dont feel bad. Tell her what she wants to hear. tell her you hand wash them. she will never know lol good luck

there is no way I can sort them...the loads are way too tiny and I simply do not have the time...it has not ruined my sons clothes yet...

I sort. My daughter has a lot of jeans that can turn her white blue and a lot of red that can turn them pink.
