They live in Texas and it is warm there.

I always get compliments from everyone at a baby shower when I give the gifts of monogrammed diaper bags. I also add monogrammed burp cloths and diaper covers. For the next shower coming up at church I have bought monogrammed bottle koozie wraps as well. These things are easy and inexpensive on Ebay or even better when you know someone who monograms. As a finishing touch I buy two yards of blue or pink tulle and wrap them around baskets as wrapping or even wrap it around plain white shirt boxes. Just tying the tulle in knots on top makes pretty bows. Everyone feels special when something is monogrammed...even a little prince.

The gift that was really helpful and that I still use today is the peanut shell by goo ga. It's a sling so that she can carry him, nurse him, and basically do things & have some hands free. I don't tihink I would have been able eat the first few months without it. The other wonderful thing about these slings is that it cradles and keeps the baby nice and snugly like in the womb, & puts em right to sleep! Love it!

check it out here

Other things that are great are gift certificates for food or something. If she's breast feeding, there isn't much time to do anything the first few months!

That's kind of hard to answer. A lot of people are going to be giving her things to use with the baby, but sometimes Mom gets lost in the mix, and it is nice to be remembered. Lotions and powders and perfumes are hard if she is breastfeeding, because she won't be able to use them much, and cute clothes are hard because she just had a baby. (Personally, my favorite gifts were Tucks pads and a rice sock, but then again I'm weird) Mom is going to be spending a LOT of time sitting or lying down, whether she will be nursing or bottle-feeding, and not much energy to do a whole lot. How about offering to do loads of laundry for the first couple of weeks (or come over and help on a day off if you work!), and some new books or videos, because she won't really be leaving the house all that much right now? If she is nursing, finding some pretty, easy-access nursing tops that are attractive but still functional (the Motherhood store is great for this one!).

If she needs baby items maybe something along those lines though after having a baby she may be all babied out and want to feel like she still is a woman other than just a mommy she would probably really enjoy a massage or gift certificate for a spa or possibly a gift card for a store with a note saying spend it on you or maybe one for a store that doesnt have baby options so she can pamper herself a little. As far as baby maybe a keepsake box, a blanket those chenille ones or just super soft ones are amazing and they have tons of cute ones or maybe his first teddy bear

A gift certificate for a portrait studio. Every mother wants to cherish their babies and a special picture of the two of them is priceless. Also, if the baby is a newborn, she may not want to leave him much to do something nice for herself, but make her some meals to freeze so she doesn't have to cook while trying to meet all the babies needs at the same time. I would have loved that when I had a newborn! I didn't cook for a month because I was always holding a baby or feeding the baby or something! Or maybe offer to help her clean the house or get laundry done. if you can afford it, hire a cleaning service for her! Who wouldn't love that!

I like to buy for both mom and baby. You could go with a spa treatment if she is into that. Offers to babysit, cook, and clean are always helpful. As far as actual gifts go - a bathrobe, house coat, comfy pj's, slippers, bath stuff, mani/pedi supplies, a good book, a new movie. A box of chocolates is always nice. For the baby diapers and wipes, bath stuff, sleep and plays are great. Scrap booking supplies are good and not something everyone already gets. You could also get her a gift certificate for professional photos.

A Diaper Cake!

I make 3 tier diaper cakes, which a lot of people buy for baby showers, but they are awesome gifts to receive after you have the baby too, especially in the mail when she's not expecting anything! The entire cake is usable with approx. 70 diapers and several gifts for baby.

All of my cakes have the baby gifts hidden inside, and I could customize them for the warm weather in Texas. I usually use size 2 diapers for babies 12-18 lbs.

My favorite gifts were food items because i couldnt cook after my C-section. it was so helpful to have people give us dishes of food. I also loved Wlamart gift certificates to get diapers, formula and anything else i may have needed but didnt get at the shower. a keepsake box is ideal for the new mom. a new camera too...so she can email you lots of pictures of the baby. a new pair of cozy slippers for bumming around the house as well as maybe a gift certificate to Old Navy or somplace where she can buy cheap clothes that fit and she wont care if she gets it stained. good luck and hope this helps!!

A free massage.

As the mother of a 15-month old boy, a free massage was the best thing I have EVER received at a shower. It was so nice to take the time off.

Also try a coupon to get a manicure and pedicure and maybe a new hairstyle.

As a new mom you don't get these luxuries!

There are gazillions of ideas! More info would have been nice. Is she a first-time Mommy? Is she a single Mommy? Does the baby have brothers or sisters? Does the Mommy have baby "needs" that would be nice to fill. One of our favorites for first-time moms is a nice rectangular basket that could sit on changing table or be moved to a shelf, one with a handle is good as it allows mom to carry basket and baby safely if necessary. In it we place everyday baby items that new moms need but seldom think of ahead of time: cotton balls, baby oil, baby shampoo, baby lotion, baby powder, infant/baby Tylenol, Aspirin, gas drops. A baby thermometer (rectal to digital there is a wide range), a bulb syringe for aspirating stuffy runny noses, infant nail clippers, baby combs/brushes, gift cards for diapers, safety items also are nice addition for as baby gets older - door knob covers, corner protectors, electrical outlet plugs, latches for refrigerator and/or toilet seat, a cover for tub spout, etc... it saves them time, provides necessary items that you don't always think of until you need them, and has the advantage that you can spend as little or as much as you wish. Add a rattle, teething item, or small stuffed animal and TAH-DAH, a gift that has always been well-received as well as one that is usually unique.

You could fix her a basket full of goodies, and decorate it. Put all the needy things in it, and fill it up as much as you can. It need to be a decorative basket though. One that she can use in the baby's room. You could also try making a diaper cake. Look it up online to get idea. And one of the gifts that I got was a high chair made for me. My kitchen is done in John Deere. So thay made me a cover to match. And the high chair was a wooden one. So it had the look. Try some of those ideas. Good luck.

All of the answers that mention pampering for Mom is great, but maybe add in a gift certificate for Mom to meet up with Dad later for dinner, and pre-arrange for childcare while they're gone- if you are comfortable doing it, great, otherwise, enlist a family member to be available for this, and incluse that knowledge when you give the gift.

I have a twin boy and girl. I got a lot of nice, thoughtful, and well-meaning gifts. BUT - I didn't need many of them! Like the blankets - you can only use so many. I must have gotten 7 or 8 beautiful and personalized quilts and blankets for each baby. I am certainly grateful, but...

Get her a gift card. It's cheap to mail and will be far more appreciated and useful. If you feel like you really must purchase something, BATTERIES. :)

Get her a comfortable robe and soft slippers or paid session at a portrait studio where she can take pictures with or of the baby. She probably wont want to be seperated from the baby for a while so anything that consists of time alone wont be used for a while.

After my baby girl was born, I was dying for a back massage!

Assuming she didn't have a cesarean section, it feels GREAT to be able to stretch out on your stomach again, and your shoulders and back get sore since they are unaccustomed to constantly holding a 6-10 lb weight. So spoil her with an hour at the spa, and offer to watch the baby while she's there ;-)

If this is a gift you're giving to mommy before her baby is born (and if this is her first child), I would recommend getting her a good parenting book so she can read it while she's on maternity leave...

Give her a gift card from Wal-Mart, Target, or some store close to her. That way she could get what she really needs.. And it won't be too warm this week end though.

A diaper genie - can't go wrong with that. If you are looking for something a little less pricey, try a baby book or a nice, light baby blanket.

A camera... new cozy pajamas...A baby foot frameset to mold the babys foot to keep for memories....A first years baby book to record babys 12 months.

A good rocking chair,I wish someone would of gave me one...

There are so many gift ideas, good luck in your search!
2007-01-10 19:43:06 UTC
The gift I make is always well received by new mothers.

A "coupon book", made by me, with "one night of babysitting", "one day of housecleaning", "one day of errand running", and "a trip to baby's first shots" (that one is because I have my own business, so I can schedule easier than some)...

But anyway, a new mother is overwhelmed...at this point, actions are more valueable than gifts.

A voucher to watch the baby meanwhile she takes a nap! Or a gift certificate for a pedi and watch the little one for her meanwhile shes out!

I think a gift certificate for a spa, or mani/pedi is an awesome gift for any new mommy.

make a basket for her. Put things like matches with a note attached to it that reads....for when your fire runs out. , ear plugs ....for when you need peace. , bandages....for healing broken hearts., Kleenex's...for all the tears you will shed., brag book....when your away and sad look at the little baby you love., bath salts.... for peace and relaxation when all else fails.

The sky is the limit for this. Anything you can think of put it into the basket and tape a little note to each item.

I would get them a scrap book or make one for them to add to throughout the years. They both can benefit from it! But if you are looking for mom only then I say get a gift certificate to a restraunt she likes or to a hair salon, nail salon,or spa.Maybe even a tanning session would work???

Hope this helps!
2007-01-10 19:45:23 UTC
A gift certificate for dinner and your babysitting services. You can also cook the family meals for a week, she might be tired and that helps a lot.

an outdoor tent.. good for beaches or to lay on the ground on a breezy day, just small enough to lay a baby in and have it pretected from the elemetns while mom is outside enjoying the weather

Ask the mother...I'm sure there's something she didn't get at the baby shower that she needs for the baby. But diapers is something she will need for quite awhile...You can never have to many diapers

a friend of mine recently had a baby, and when i asked my friends what they thought, (both of them are mothers of two) they both immediatly said practical things like diapers or burp rags. why? because the babys going to get all sorts of baby toys from its parents, grandparents and family. but when it gets down to it, diapers are EXPENSIVE. thats the best present, my friends told me.

another thought, is a baby book. most moms gobble gushy mushy baby stuff like that up. you know, basically like a scrapbook for babys first haircut, first tooth...
