Go to the gerber website and it shows you a list of things to look for to show you when your baby is ready for different types of food. Every babies progress is different and some children are able to start solids lumpy foods before others. In order to not waste the foods that you have bought, try milking them down and use a fork to mash them a little more. It is not the lumpy food that is making her gag, it is the consistency of the food. Also, try lumpy foods that are her favorite foods first. If she is used to carrot and green bean baby food, you have to progress to lumpy foods that she is already familiar with. She will be in shock if you start to feed her foods she has never had before. But please loo through the gerber site, and consult your pediatrician before you decide to change the babies diet.
Good luck.

Gagging is a totally normal reflex in babies. This actually stops them chocking. It is also designed to bring food up if it needs more chowing. You may need to mince the lumps down more and start gradually to build up to larger lumps, but she will get the hang of it. My son was like this and turned out he didn't like me feeding him lumpy stuff off a spoon so he now has 80% finger foods and he's fine.
Good luck

Lots of babies have problems with lumpy purees. They don't know whether to chew or just swallow. Give the kid some finger foods and skip the lumpy purees.

She is just not used to the texture yet, It is possible that it may be too early for minced food, Or she may just not like the texture. if she is not trying to chew it up it will be too early. I found the best thing for teaching my son to eat different textures is the Baby Mum Mum crackers. hey dissolve very easily in the mouth so they are not a big choking concern ( still don't ever leave your baby alone while eating) I would break them up into little chunks and let him finger feed with them.

Stop giving her the lumpy food. It's like eating pre chewed food and is just horrible. And it is very sticky.
Give her table food that she can chew herself. Many babies skip purees if they start food at 6 mos.

Try mashing the lumps into smaller ones. She's gonna gag until she figures out how to start chewing before swallowing foods. Its part of the learning process. DO NOT give her anything that you're not sure she will be able to get down. Be on the safe side.

This is not about teeth. She's just not ready for lumpy food. But you can consider giving her table food to chew/suck on if she's ready to pick things up and put them in her mouth.

You mean like, lumpy babyfood. (The stage 3 stuff in the jars?)
Lots of babies gag on that type of food -- the mixture of puree and lumps is confusing.
If she can feed herself corn-snacks and fruit, then skip the stage 3 and go right to table foods. She doesn't need jars anymore.

maybe try something a little softer, like a smashed up banana or over-baked potato with a few lumpy pieces that she can 'gum' through. you could also try smaller bites & more time to chew them. and just like when you started cereal or pureed baby food, start slow. give her 2 tablespoons once a day & supplement that with milk/cereal/puree. she will get the hang of it, just give her time. other foods to try might include smashed avocado, roughly smashed green peas, sweet potato, basically anything super soft that will be easy for her to smash up with her gums.

Pippin, jlb, and Cindy C have nailed it.
If "corn snaks" are Gerber things dole those out very sparingly; they are total junk food, about as healthy as Cheetos.

I guess she has only a few teeth and not many to break down the lumpy bits. They may not be breaking down or soft enough for her to get her gums to reduce its size. Try smaller softer lumps. Some children don't get to eat lumpy/ harder food until 9 months, don't forget she has only a small diameter oesophagus.

it's normal, it means she's not quite ready for it yet
my kid is 2 and she still gags on food sometimes, she didn't really start eating proper finger foods till about 1.5, and never really liked mashed foods, just purees.
just wondering

Stop feeding her lumpy food and wait. She's gotta get teeth to chew with first.
